National Flag Commemoration in Croke Park

Scoil Aireagail took its place alongside all other secondary schools in Croke Park on 7 March to receive the national flag from the Thomas Meagher Foundation as part of 1916 commemoration events. TY students Jamie Barron, Richie Cody and Sean O’ Mahony represented the school at the event. The students saw President Michael D Higgins deliver an inspirational speech on the relevance of the national flag and the 1916 Easter Rising to all our lives. The defence forces were also represented. The students learned about the life of Thomas Meagher who designed the tricolour and hung it from the Mall in Waterford for the first time in 1848. Jamie received the national flag and a copy of the Proclamation on behalf of the school. It was a memorable day for the students and an honour for Scoil Aireagail to participate in commemorative events nationally.
