Many of our class groups went into Kilkenny this week to go ice skating and bowling. These outings play a very important role in promoting well being among our students. The trips as always provided a nice build up to the festive holiday. Well done to all involved in organising and facilitating the trips.  

Last week Ursula Clancy, a Community Information Nurse from the Marie Keating Foundation visited the school to talk to Transition Year students. This talk focused on cancer prevention and early detection. Students found the talks extremely informative. Thanks to the Marie Keating Foundation for facilitating the talk.

Past pupil Roy Cullen in conjunction with Kilkenny Sport Partnership recently ran a personal fitness program with our TY classes. Our TY students completed a first Aid course last week. They found the training very practical and hands on. Thanks to Mr. McGrath for organising and facilitating the course.

The 5th and 6th year Ag. Science classes recently visited Liam and Pat Hennessy’s farm in Rathculbin, Kells. The students got a tour of the farm and saw a 50 point rotary milking parlour in action. It was a very interesting farm visit and very educational.

Well done to our Trad Group musicians who entertained the crowd on Monday December 9th in Billy’s Tea Rooms, Ballyhale. They played a wonderful array of traditional and Christmas music. Thanks to Ms. Rowe for supporting the group and facilitating the event.   

During this term our TY students completed a series of workshops on Hip Hop dance and performance. Dancing and exercise have been proven to help students build their self-esteem and levels of self-confidence. TY students recently took part in the Battle of the Wits Quiz in conjunction with Kilkenny County Library Service. TY students were put into teams and battled it out in school. Recently in October the school celebrated Maths Week, 2019. The first years and second years went to Castlecomer Discovery Park to attend the excellent Maths Trail. The students had a great time and worked on their angles with some archery lessons after completing the maths trail.                   […]
