v  We do not stream in first year. Our assessment test allows us to establish an equitable ability spread throughout our classes. Is also gives us a base line on each student against which we can gauge progress in subsequent years. We have on staff an experienced group of support education teachers who assess all incoming students The details of this assessment then forms part of the student’s profile.

 

v  In second and third year we block timetable certain subjects so that students can take these subjects at either higher, ordinary or foundation level.

 

v  Students found to be in need of remedial/support education are identified and a help programme is put in place. Progress is monitored and if it is felt that concessions are warranted in Department Examinations, we work with the Department Psychological Service to ensure such concessions are available.

v  We have run a very successful book rental scheme, for a number of years now. This ensures that books are available to every student for a very nominal fee. The rental in the current year is €125 and this includes the student’s Class Diary, their 24 hour personal accident insurance, photocopying and postage .

v  Supervised study from 4 – 6 o’clock on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is provided at a nominal cost.

v  We have on open door policy towards parents. This means that parents are free to call to discuss any matter at any time.  We believe in the concept of sharing in the responsibility for the education of each student, between parents and the school
