Hairdressing 

Approved Courses FETAC/ QQI CODE

Course duration : 2 years

Topics covered include:
1st year Personal presentation, Hair and Scalp analysis, Reception Skills, Shampoo and Conditioning, Styling and Dressing Hair, Colouring , Curling and Straightening, Cutting, Sales and Marketing .
2nd year as above but to a higher level
Assessment:
Students work is presented at the end of year in portfolio format or terminal examination. Evidence of practical work is to be photographed.

Assignment work must be presented and made ready in advance of External Verifier.

Department of Education T.S Junior trade (practical and written).
2. F.E.T.A.C Level 5 Hairdressing (practical and written) and Work Experience
2nd Years
1. Department of Education T.S. Senior trade(practical and written).
2. City and Guilds (Diploma in Hairdressing 302)

Finance: During the year students will attend external courses on Hair Colour, Up styling, Perming techniques, Barbering Workshops etc. and Seminars on Hair and Beauty. Courses may vary from year to year and there will be a charge for them. This should be taken into account when organising finance for the academic year

Note: Students must purchase Hairdressing tools, equipment and books as requested by school. Uniform must be worn. All students are required to supply models for practical work.Students are required to take work experience on a Friday. This is mandatory and is accessed together with a block release at Christmas.

Students applying for Hairdressing should have Art and Science to leaving cert. Level. It is an advantage to have previous work experience in a salon.
How to apply: Application forms are available from Scoil Aireagail. On successful completion of application an interview process takes place. Those called for interview should have the following:Current Curriculum Vitae, two photos and recent references. Photographic work of styles they have created in portfolio would be helpful too. This course is open to mature students.
