County Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee offers an extensive range of Post-Leaving Certificate(PLC) Courses.
The following PLC courses are available at Scoil Aireagail:
The PLC or Further Education Programme (PLC/FE) is full time and provides appropriate vocational training to allow people to bridge the gap between school and work. The courses are designed to offer individuals specialist knowledge, training and work experience which will support them in seeking employment or gaining a place at third level. ·enhance their prospects of securing lasting, full-time employment ·progress to other studies.
PLC courses run by Kilkenny VEC and Scoil Aireagail are open to: ·Young people who have completed senior cycle education, and require further vocational education and training to boost their prospects of employment or allow them advance to other studies ·Adults returning to education who may not have completed the senior cycle but are deemed by the provider to have the necessary competencies to undertake the Programme.
Information Processing
This one-year programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills required by the Information Technology industry. The course is intended for students wishing to pursue a career in information processing. Students will also acquire important web and computing design skills. Mandatory Modules

AwardUpon successful completion of the module participants will be awarded a FETAC Level 5 Major Award in Information Processing. HAIRDRESSING Course Description This is a two-year full-time course with emphasis on the theory and practice of Hairdressing. This course is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and techniques necessary for professional hairdressing with related theory and science. On successful completion of this course students may be employed as Junior Stylists. Training is provided in the College Hair Salon and students are also placed in an outside salon for their work experience. Entry Qualifications1. Students who have passed 5 subjects in Leaving Certificate including English. Preference will be given to students with Art and a Science subject. or 2. Students having passed the Junior Certificate with high grades in English, Science and Art. All students who qualify under 1 and 2 above will be called for interview. If there are more applicants than places the final selection will be decided at the interview. Accommodation Accommodation is available in the area (names and phone numbers available from the school) or alternatively students travel by private bus to Kilkenny City at a nominal charge.

FETAC Hairdressing Level 5 Examination This examination covers the following modules:- · Hairdressing Science · Hairdressing Theory & Practice · Work Experience City & Guilds of London Certificate The certificate provides a broad introduction to the theory and practical sides of hairdressing for a person starting work in a salon. City & Guilds of London Diploma The diploma provides more practice involving a broader range of skills appropriate to a person who may be working independently. FETACSuccessful completion of the course will result in a FETAC certificate at Level 5 on the National Qualifications Framework.
