We were absolutely thrilled to learn that Scoil Aireagail was shortlisted as one of the top 10 schools in Ireland for the prestigious Bord na Móna Secondary Schools Challenge! This national competition celebrates student-led projects that promote sustainability and environmental awareness, and our entry, “Waste Not, Grow Lots,” captured the judges’ attention with its creativity and impact.
The project focused on reducing waste, encouraging sustainable living, and enhancing biodiversity through the creation of a vibrant garden space on our school grounds. What made this garden truly special was that it was designed and built entirely by students using salvaged and recycled materials. From repurposed wood and containers to upcycled furniture and hand-crafted plant beds, every element of the garden reflected our commitment to rethinking waste and protecting the environment.
This initiative was not just about gardening—it was about teamwork, innovation, and making a difference in our local environment. Students took ownership of every stage of the process, from planning and design to construction and planting, while learning important lessons about sustainability, biodiversity, and the power of collective action.
A huge congratulations to the students who brought this project to life, and sincere thanks to everyone in our school community who supported it along the way. Being shortlisted is a wonderful recognition of your dedication, creativity, and drive to make a positive impact on the world around you.
