On Monday, 9th November the 3 Gold class of Scoil Aireagail took part in the Oireachtas Education Programme. This event gives students the chance to learn more about the workings of the Oireachtas and our democratic process.
As part of the programme, the Oireachtas Outreach officer Anne-Marie McSorley gave a morning workshop to the students. This was followed by a question-and-answer session with Deputy Bobby Aylward of Fianna Fail and Senator John Paul Phelan of Fine Gael, with one of the students, Andrew FitzPatrick, as Ceann Comhairle. A lively debate amongst all concerned followed, and Ms. McSorley complimented the students for their enthusiasm and involvement.
The session ended with the students thanking the politicians for giving so generously of their time, whilst the politicians extended an invitation to the students of Scoil Aireagail to come and visit them in the Dail.
Ms. Leahy, 3 Gold’s’ CSPE teacher, said her students really enjoyed the experience and are really looking forward to their trip to the Dail.
