Commiserations to Scoil Aireagail’s u19 boys soccer panel who lost to Kilkenny C.B.S by 4-2 in Scanlan Park, Kilkenny last Monday.
Having defeated Carlow Vocational School by 5-1, our u19s were hoping to continue their good start to this year’s campaign. Despite playing against a strong wind in the first half, the boys did very well to be 0-0 with the opposition with 35 minutes gone, though they relied on a great save by Ian Frisby during that period. However, a penalty and a slip by Colin Dunphy allowed C.B.S. to take a 2-0 lead at half time.
Unsurprisingly, led by Captain Conor Coffey and vice-captain Shane Denieffe, the fightback began when Conor was pulled down for a penalty ten minutes into the second half. He duly converted and feelings were high that the away team were back in the game. It was not to be, as C.B.S. scored two more goals, and a late consolation by Conor Coffey made the final score 4-2 to the home team.
Despite the result, manager Mr. Madden was happy as the u19s acquitted themselves very well. Best wishes in the remaining games boys.
