Scoil Aireagail are Kilkenny Div 2 U-19 Badminton Champions’
On Wednesday last Scoil Aireagail, successfully defended their Kilkenny U-19 Girls Badminton crown. The team was led by Sahuna Kenneally who won 2 of her singles matches and both her doubles games. She was supported by the excellent Danielle Catt, Stephanie Walsh and Amy Fogarty. It was a remarkable achievement that saw them account for the much fancied Kilkenny College’ A’ team in the decider. Unfortunately the girls cannot defend their Leinster crown as rules permit that the same team cannot compete on the provincial stage on an annual basis. The team are with us again next year, so all going well we will get the opportunity to regain our Leinster crown!
Success was also achieved by the Boys U-19 team of Jack Brown, Eugene Alyward, Brian Phelan and Conor Frisby. The boys had a near unblemished set of victories as they set about to win the competition in a group that consisted of Kilkenny College, Grennan College and Callan C.B.S. Unfortunately the boys narrowly missed out on the Leinster Championships following a narrow defeat to a strong Div 1 team from Johnstown.
