Some of our Students Council members attended the Kilkenny Comhairle na nOg AGM last Thursday October 16th in Hotel Kilkenny.
Comhairli na nOg are local ‘youth councils’ designed to give children and young people the ‘right to have his or her voice heard’ by being involved in the development of local services and policies. There is a Comhairle na nOg in each of the 34 City/County Development Board areasComhairle na nOg provides a forum for young people aged 12-18 to identify and work on issues of importance to them before working with key local decision-makers in a bid to achieve their desired outcome, impact or change.
The Comhairle na nOg AGM is one of the first steps in that process, bringing together young people from throughout the city/county to identify and prioritise these topics of importance. It was a fun day where the students got to have their say, meet other young people, and discuss issues important to them.
The students involved were: Ryan Mulqueen, Patrick Butler, Richie Cody, Emily Murphy, Nicole Sutton Duggan, and Anton O’Shea. Thanks to Ms. Mills for organising the day.
