Scoil Aireagail

Abbey

Scoil Aireagail got off to a fantastic start in what was their first football match of the year. Strong play from centre backs Roy Cullen and Brian Farrell kept the ball coming and a a smart pass from Jamie McGloughlin led to a great goal from Adam Brenner which was planted top corner. Abbey responded immediately with another goal, quickly followed by another. Jamie Barron and Patrick Hearne cleaned up a lot of ball and were keeping the Abbey full forwards at bay. Again, a high ball was left in by Adam Brenner and Jamie Dungan was first to react and rose above the Abbey’s keeper and punched the ball into the back of the net. Scoil Aireagail’s forwards showed great determination and perseverance and were unlucky not to follow up with more scores, seeing the ball drift wide on a couple of occasions. Eoin Doolan was leading from the full back line putting in a good performance, but the Abbey kept the pressure on and scored another 1-2 from play.

As the second half started, Scoil Aireagail again were first off the blocks with Brenner pointing from a free. Brian Farrell and Jamie McGloughlin supplied plenty of ball to the forwards. Cillian Lafford won a great high ball and was fouled in the box and won a penalty. Adam Brenner stepped up to the penalty and slotted it nicely in the bottom corner.

The Abbey repelled with two goals for themselves. The Scoil Aireagail forwards were getting back into the game and in the dying moments of the match Jamie Dungan scored a rebound from Roy Cullen’s penalty. Hard luck to Mr. Hagan and the team who put in a good performance.
