Scoil Aireagail opened its new student canteen on Wednesday 15 November. The provision of the canteen is the culmination of four years of hard work by the Parents’ Association. The whole school community were supportive of the many fundraising initiatives undertaken by the Parents’ Association; American Tea Parties, Tractor Runs, Bingo, Tom Hunt memorial Fun Run, Race Night and clothes collections. The canteen will add to the many excellent facilities in the school and will further enhance the educational experience for the students. The canteen is named the Carmelite Canteen in recognition of the close association between the school and the Carmelites over five decades. The school community was saddened by the news of their departure from the parish and wanted to honour their contribution to the school’s life. Frs. Lynch, O’Callaghan and Brennan were each presented with mementos which were created by the students. A large gathering of the school community was present on the evening. The school is going from strength to strength performing well academically, on hurling and camogie fronts while always focussed on the students’ welfare.
