Our first and second year hurlers took to the pitch today for their first competitive game of the season against Ramsgrange Community School. Despite having the home advantage our Scoil Aireagail boys got off to a rocky start when Ramsgrange found the net after 4 minutes. Once our boys got settled with a few long range points, it was evident that our boys were starting to find their feet, some great scores from Cian Franks with the help of a well worked goal from Conor Holohan saw Scoil Aireagail lead at half time 1:7 to 1:2.
Against the wind in the second half the boys knew they had a battle on their hands. A dirty ball won by Danny Somers lead to a long run by Seamus Murphy from centre back which resulted in him raising the white flag to settle the nerves and give the team the confidence to push on. It was all Scoil Aireagail from this point on, along with great defending, great attacking and wise tactical decisions by Mr Mason there were no stopping our lads. Pushing into the last 10 minutes our boys were in complete control as players 1-15 were dominating their area leading to more well worked balls out of defence along with our forwards making hard scores look easy.
In the end we had a comfortable win 5:14 to 1:5. Our lads happy to get the win and come out injury free. Our next outing will be away to Kilmuckridge in the coming weeks.
The team and management would like to wish all the players involved with KCETB Schools team tomorrow the best of luck as they face Offaly.
