Some of our student council members went into the Springhill Court Hotel on Thursday 17th October to take part in the Kilkenny Comhairle na nÓg AGM. Comhairle na nÓg is a local council for children and young people, aged 12-17, that gives them a voice in the development of local poilcies and services. It also provides a forum for young people to identify and work on issues of importance to them before working with key local decision-makers in a bid to achieve their desired outcome, impact or change. The Comhairle na nÓg AGM is one of the first steps in that process, bringing young people from throughout the county together to identify and prioritise these topics of importance.
The topics chosen for this year’s event were Encouraging Individuality and Climate Change. The day consisted of a series of facilitated workshops to discuss these topics and afterwards the delegates made recommendations on how to achieve the desired impact. Thanks to Ms. Phelan and Ms. Mills for organising and facilitating the students on the trip.
