Well done to Scoil Aireagail’s senior hurling panel who had a great start against Borris V.S. in the first round of the schools’ ‘A’ competition.
Despite difficult weather conditions, both teams tried their best, but the home side forged ahead to lead by 1-7 to 0-3 at half time. With the assistance of a strong wind, Borris fought back in the second half, but Scoil Aireagail showed great character, and a Kevin McNamara goal near the end saw them home.
A good performance was, however, spoiled by the loss through injury of goalkeeper Dylan Walsh, who made three fine saves before being forced off. Padraig Gahan, Ger Malone and Martin Duggan, when introduced, all performed well in defence, ably assisted by Kieran Bergin and Jamie Phelan in midfield. Peter Kenneally, Liam Phelan, Conor Walsh and Conor Coffee were most prominent in attack
Congratulations to all concerned, and to manager Mr. Murphy, and best of luck in the next match lads.
