Two members of the KSPCA (Kilkenny Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) recently came to speak to Ms. Leahy’s 2 Purple CSPE class.
Noel O’Donoghue and Diane Stone were invited by the class to speak to them about animal welfare and animal cruelty in Kilkenny. Both speakers told the class that the KSPCA was set up in 1982 and are based in the Hebron Industrial Estate in Kilkenny City. They explained to the students about the importance of pet care, neutering and how they prosecute cases through the courts. The students asked many interesting questions and learned a lot about puppy farms, dog fights and the best times to get a pet.
The KSPCA work, for the most part, on a voluntary basis and receive no funding, and so rely completely on donations and fundraising.
Everyone agreed that it was an interesting and enjoyable experience.
