Over the coming months, Scoil Aireagail has organised a series of talks by guest speakers which will be of interest to all parents and guardians of teenagers.
The first in the series took place in the school recently when Michael Bond, a retired school Principal, educational motivator and former Offaly All-Ireland winning manager, spoke to the parents of First and Second years about how to help their children manage the transition from primary to secondary school and also how to help their child to reach his/her potential in school.
A large audience attended this light hearted, enjoyable but extremely effective presentation. Michael explained to the parents the importance of developing and maintaining good communication with their child as they move through the teenage years and he gave several tips and strategies for this. He also discussed several other issues of concern such as raising self esteem and dealing with bullying.
Earlier in the day, Michael had met with the junior classes and, as a follow up, he outlined for the parents how they could help their sons and daughters to study most effectively. He also demonstrated some very useful and practical ways to memorise information and went on to explain the importance of the student developing good study and revision habits early in their secondary school years.
Michael’s presentation was followed by a question and answer session and, over a cup of tea afterwards, the parents said how much they enjoyed the evening.
