Last week Scoil Aireagail celebrated French culture when our French teachers Mme Kennedy and Mme Leahy hosted French week. A variety of cross curricular events were organised for students throughout the week. French posters and bunting decorated the walls of the whole school which created a lovely atmosphere and set the tone for the week.
On Monday we celebrated French music and film with a competition running throughout the day where students had to guess the name of the French songs which were played over the intercom.
Ms Kennedy’s classroom turned into a French cinema on Monday and Tuesday when the French film Hors de prix (Priceless), starring Audrey Tatou the famous French actress was shown to students during lunch time.
The school of Hairdressing opened up their salon to students on Tuesday and offered french plaits, french manicures and nails painted in french colours.
On Wednesday Scoil Aireagail opened up a French café where parents and the adult I.T class were treated to some very fancy French patisseries. Thanks to Ms. Fitzgerald and the TY class for baking such a delicious selection of quiches, vol au vents, and cup cakes iced with the French colours. A French themed quiz followed by French bingo was held in the hall for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year students in the afternoon.
A non-uniform day was held on Thursday and students were encouraged to wear French style outfits. Both students and teachers got into the spirit of the occasion and made a great effort to perfect their French outfits.
The Art students under the guidance of Ms. Roche studied French impressionism with prints from Claude Monet, Renoir, Degas, Manet, Cezanne, and Pisarro on display along the corridor.
A poster competition was run for Ms. Dooley’s first year computer class. They created posters advertising French week and everything French. The creation of a french information web site was the task for the 2nd year computer class. Please click on the links below to view the winning sites.
The amazing success of the week would not have happened without the hard work and commitment of Mme Kennedy and Mme Leahy. Thanks also to Carmel and Kathleen in the canteen for organising profiteroles, eclairs, pain aux chocolates, pain aux raisins to staff and students for the week.
