Senior Hurling victory

On the 14th of November, the senior hurling team played the Wexford CBS in the south Leinster semi final. The lads knew that they had a challenge ahead of them and would have to be on the ball from the first whistle. With a place at the south Leinster final available the boys surely didn’t let this chance slip by.

All six of the Scoil Aireagail backs played outstandingly throughout the game and only conceded one single point within the whole sixty minutes of play. Extra credit goes to captain, James Grace, who showed great leadership to help his boys to victory.

At the other end of the pitch, the Scoil Aireagail forwards were on top of their game. The opening point if the match came from Andrew Fitzpatrick. Further points from Ronan Corcoran, Mikey Jones and a point from Andrew Fitzpatrick kept the Scoil Aireagail scoreboard ticking over. Great team work from Dylan Doran to Ronan Coffey lead to goal number two and Kevin Farrell grabbed goal number three.

Before the Wexford CBS goalie had time to settle, Andrew Fitzpatrick succeeded in another unstoppable goal. This gave Scoil Aireagail a comfortable lead of 4-3 to 0-1  going into the second half.  Once again Scoil Aireagail got off to a better start with great work from Ronan Corcoran and Paddy Delaney. Aaron Doherty, Jack Kenneally, Eugene Aylward and Brian Phelan worked well together ensuring Wexford CBS added no more to their scoreboard. Aaron Roche made a numbers of saves on goal, not giving the opposition any hope if a goal.

The Scoil Aireagail forwards got scoring again, great teamwork lead to a string of points from Paul Kirwin, Kevin Farrell and two from Ronan Corcoran. Once again Andrew Fitzpatrick succeeded in his third goal to give him a well deserved hat trick and a man of the match performance.

Despite being the favourites, the Wexford CBS lads were gob smacked after the superb performance from the Scoil Aireagail players.

Well done to manager Mr. Murphy and to all concerned. Good luck to the boys in their South Leinster final against the winners of Ramsgrange and Wicklow school combined team.
