On Thursday 16th May the 2nd and 5th year students went an ecology field trip to Castlecomer Discovery Park. The students took part in an Ecology Field Study where they carried out a habitat study of the diverse plant and animal life in our woodland
ecosystem.
The 2nd Years also visited the Coal Mining Exhibition – a 45-minute tour through Castlecomers coal mining past. The exhibition is an interactive multi-media display that took the students on a journey through time. Starting with the formation of the coal 300 million years ago, students were brought through more than 300 years of coal mining history to the closure of the mines in 1969.
Thanks to Mr. Dowling and Ms. Hickey for giving up their time and organising the trip.
